2013-2014 Class Information
1. Radio/TV Broadcasting I & II
Emphasis is placed on career opportunities, production, programming, promotion, sales, announcing, broadcasting equipment operation, news and sports casting, technical oral/written communication, and listing skills. Many of these skills will be instructed through hands-on school activities to represent real-life occupations. This will include our own YouTube channel, TV program called "What's Happening", and video announcements through our hallway TV. Students will have to schedule after school events and take part within the leadership and team approach to be successful. Skills needed for this class are self-motivated, organized, time-management, confidence to learn, work well with others, and to be teachable even if it is your own classmates.
2. Introduction to Communications
This class specializes in identifying and using modern communication to exchange messages and information. We will look at the application of the tools, materials, and techniques used to design, produce, use and assess systems of communication. Looking at communication technology; the way it has evolved, how messages are designed and produced, and how people may profit from creating information services and products. Students will explore mass media communication processes including radio and TV broadcasting, publishing, and printing activities, telecommunication networks, and other related systems. They will use their knowledge to solve design and communication problems in each area.
3. Introduction to Construction
Designed to instruct and educate students about the fundamentals related to and for construction. Students will learn hands on skills as well as knowledge relating to terminology and procedures. Learning the basics about framing, electrical, concrete, plumping, finishing and site work will allow students to be more productive and prepared to move into the Building Trades Program, or prepare them for a career within the construction field.
